The Report on current FCN working and occupational contexts has been delivered

This document provides a snapshot of the current working and occupational contexts of the Family and Community Nurse (FCN) in 21 EU Member States, namely: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Croatia, Finland, France, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and United Kingdom. The preparation of this document appeared very challenging right from the beginning because of the great variability of the FCN working and occupational context, not only across the various countries, but often even with the same country.

This variability involved many aspects, starting from the different healthcare systems, the way primary care is organized and funded, differences in the way the roles and activities of Family and Community Nurses are conceptualized across different cultures, up to the great variety of terms used to describe FCNs.

The work of Family and Community Nurses is directly influenced by healthcare, social, financial, and cultural contexts, which constitute the natural setting of their practice.

Therefore, all the ENhANCE Alliance Partners of Work Package 2, led by the University of Genoa, worked very hard, firstly to decide what type of information needed to be collected, and then how to organize it in a way that it could be used in WP3 to inform the creation of a core curriculum, which could to be used as a benchmark by European Family and Community Nurses.

Finally, another important part that completes the EU context for FCNs is the analysis of the European Labour Market for Family and Community Nurses, which describes the push and pull factors that characterize the labour market of FCNs across Europe.
